How it Works
Some of these materials were originally developed for the first campaign – the Peaks Challenge (the -athon model, like a climb-a-thon or bike-a-thon). However, the tools we provide apply to ANY Challenge.
“I have to give Peaks Over Poverty props for how easy they’ve made this fundraising thing!”
- Karyn & Eric Greenwood, fundraising for their honeymoon summit of Cotopaxi
1) Take a CHALLENGE.
- Find the CAUSE you want to support.
- Take their CHALLENGE! Or, create your own. Use your passion to inspire you!
2) Share your CHALLENGE experience with a BLOG.
- Your personal URL provides a place for you to track your fundraising progress, share your stories, photos, and videos, and spread the word.
- Click on “Register” in the upper right hand corner.
- Follow the steps to create your blog and launch your campaign!
- Your blog URL will look like this: www.yourname.peaksoverpoverty.org. Check out a real blog.
- Make your blog personal: upload your picture and a short bio.
- Set your fundraising goal – your blog will track donations as you get closer to reaching your goal!
- Send updates and information to your teammates and supporters.
3) Start FUNDRAISING.
Read the complete Fundraising Guide. Download Sample Tools for extra tips and templates for your fundraising letters.
Remember, raising money can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. Make it a contest! Challenge your teammates to see who can raise the most money. See what other people have done – check out their blogs and the samples below.
Use Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and other social media to help you fundraise. Tag supporters and teammates in pictures and stories. This is an incredibly powerful way to spread the word and raise money!
